Question: What is going to happen in the group?
Answer: You will meet other children your age who have an ill loved one. You will be able to share with each other about what it is like. An adult will lead the group, and you will have a new topic each week that will be addressed through art, games, and other interactive activities.
Question: What do the kids like about the groups?
Answer: The kids have FUN! They like making new friends and find out that they are not the only one in the world that has a loved one who is ill.
Question: What if I don’t feel like talking? Do I have to?
Answer: No, You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to. You can listen and see what others are talking about. If you feel like talking, you can join in. There will be other opportunities for self-expression via art, games, etc.
Question: What are the adults doing while the children are in group?
Answer: The parents, grandparents, or other adult supporters have the choice to participate in My Time, a group just for adults. A child psychologist facilitates this group, addressing the various issues that come up when a family member is ill.
